Queen! @ Smartbar Sunday, April 6th 2014

Vinyl lovers rejoice: Alexander Robotnick will join the Queen! crew this Sunday.

Née Maurizio Dami, Robotnick cut his teeth producing classic Italo-disco beats for a cabaret band called Avinda in the 80s. He expanded his horizons by working with world musicians from India and Africa. You may have heard the track “Problemes d’amour”, one of his most famous pieces to date, released under Italian label Materiali Sonori/Fuzz Dance in 1983. The 12″ has been repressed three times, the most recent time being in 1997. If it’s true that the 80s were the golden years for Italo-disco, then Robotnick’s visit to Queen! marks the resurgence of European electronic music in a contemporary, North American setting.

Contrary to popular belief, Alexander Robotnick does not reference robotic movement or artificial intelligence. Rather, it means “Alexander the worker” in Russian. Come see him work the turntables with Garrett David and Michael Serafini this Sunday, giving us a taste of the sunny Mediterranean in the time capsule better known as Smartbar.

Doors open at 10 PM, 21+, and the show is free with a host discount card. Otherwise, admission is $7 all night.
