K15 – Speed of Life 2xLP – Wild Oats

WOK1502With releases on labels such as Eglo and Lo Recordings, Kieron Ifill makes another appearance on Kyle Hall’s Wild Oats. The two-disc LP is mellow, sunny-hued, and lighthearted, with jazz, funk, and house influences.

Ifill shows some nice chops on various synths and keys throughout the record. The release as a whole shows quite a bit of range from a production standpoint, but “This Life Is All We Have” is probably my favorite track. It’s held together by a nice rolling bass line and seemingly Afro-Cuban-inspired percussion. The bright synth stabs on “Look Beyond You” seem like something one might hear on Eglo Records, and the downtempo “Truthfully features label boss Kyle Hall. The title track is short-lived, but sports brazen leads, hip-hop beats, and an awfully familiar sounding string sample.

Chill, futuristic, yet nostalgic.
