Hanna – Perpetual Rhythms Welcomes Hanna Part 1 Of 3 12″ – Perpetual Rhythms

PERP009Victor Aguinaga and Nick Marshall’s Chicago-based Perpetual Rhythms elects Warren Harris, a.k.a. Hanna, for their latest 12”. The result is a bit of a departure from Perpetual Rhythms’ usual deep-house excursions. Rather one will find a quartet of downtempo, broken-beat, hip-hop, and jazz-influenced recordings; the vibes are mellow, yet bright.

All of the tracks settle into grooves that feature loose, complex rhythms and delicate melodic instrumentation. There is also a sun-drenched perspective throughout. “Wicker Park” makes me think of some of Kyle Hall’s downtempo works, and while the cosmic-sounding chords on “Nuance” might resonate most with me, I think those who come across this record will have a pleasant listening experience across the board.
