Adam Rowe – Hanging Lake 12″ – Night Sea Journey

artworks-000246534491-bher41-t500x500The second release for Night Sea Journey is the first for Adam Rowe. Far from a novice in the studio, though – Rowe has already put his name to compilation work for Talahachi, a co-production for Gramaphone’s in-house label (on the A New Room 12″), and a variety of productions and remixes as 1/2 of Bell Boys (with Garrett David.)

Chicago-based Night Sea Journey presents his debut solo release, one that feels much like a small album. There are a variety of mellow moods spread out across the five tracks. Each is precise, delicate, tuneful. They’re unusual in their earnestness and lightness, reminding of much earlier releases on DeFocus (UK) or Dot (Sweden); probably the closest contemporary point of comparison might be the ambient house of Music For Memory.

Precision engineered naivety.
