The White Man & The Arab ‎– The Exchange 12″ – The White Man & The Arab

WMA005The White Man & The Arab are BLM and Soho, and the evocative alias foreshadows the evocative sounds: deep house with some grit, some ambient elements, thick sounds, syncopation, maybe even depth.

This is their 5th release in as many years, always on their own self-titled imprint, always with the starkly black and white thematic imagery. As for the music: On The Floor is a shuffly, dreamy expedition; People Say moves towards a more Soul Capsule / NYC garage sound; The Exchange is heavy with atmospheric pads and a straight house beat; and Sideways has a more sombre, wistful feel. They’re all straightforward house tunes with conventional, well-established sounds, but with an earnest approach to the classics that feels disconnected from trend and novelty.
