Garrett David – Live From The Dog Cave 12″ – Lobster Theremin

Stripped & Chewed, Gramaphone, and Queen resident, Garrett David wears many hats, but perhaps none more jauntily than his producer cap. Between his solo outings and his work as 1/2 of Bell Boys, he’s been quite prolific and 2017 has been his busiest year yet. Having already released two records on Lobster Theremin’s Distant Hawaii sublabel lately, he’s now been welcomed into the young empire’s home base.

On Live From The Dog Cave he keeps the house rolling and light, Sample Sesh has a bit of a Hamburg feel; Ooh Aah is more Chicago bumpity, but with more synth buoyancy and less horn samples. Two Nineteen has the Detroit strings, and then Touched is more of a roller.

Even incorporating contributions from Colin Johnson and Adam Rowe, the record stays close to its core sound. Taken together, it shows a producer integrating more and more influences and producing some well-balanced house music as a result.
