Ron Trent – Dancin’ Remixes 12″ – Headphoniq

Q013 (1)Ron Trent’s Bee Gees sampling “Dancin'” gets reworked by a tetrad of producers. All of the remixes are deep-house leaning, though each carry a mood of their own. Fellow Chicagoans Ed Nine and Jordan Fields get things rolling with their contributions. The aforementioned establishes a driving beat before shifting focus to soft chord stabs and a modest, but smooth, and effective bass line. Fields puts some laid-back jack into his remix; it’s nice to hear some grit in his drums.

The B-side finds a couple of producers from Tokyo doing their thing. Tomi Chair seems to play with reverb and layers more than the others. His rework has a light, atmospheric quality to it, but is simultaneously very weighted. The result is textural, and quite heady. Toru S. rounds things out, and shows some talented riffing on the keys.
