Derrick Carter @ Smartbar Saturday March 9th 2013

If you’re waiting for the next big thing to get lost in, it’s here. Tonight at 10 PM, Smartbar is showcasing one of its talented residents who also happens to be a global house music legend. Derrick Carter will be spinning classic dubs and newer beats in one of Chicago’s finest establishments for house heads and newcomers alike, bringing his new unreleased mixes back where it all began.

The past few days have been full of hype, and for good reason. Derrick¬†Carter started making music before he was in junior high, so I guess you could say he’s got the basics down. His repertoire is rooted in soul, funk, and jazz influences infused with minimalistic genius. Carter’s inimitable style is internationally¬†recognized, especially in Europe. It has no limits. One second you could be hearing jazz, and the next, an electric melody that moves through your blood like liquid cobalt. House Masters (Defected Records) is his most recent album featuring previously unreleased mixes of songs by Adele, N’Dambi, and other artists.

The question is not what you should do next, because that’s obvious. The question is, what should you do now ? I would suggest taking a nap, because it’s going to be a long night. Doors open at 10 PM, and the show goes on until 4 in the morning. If you can’t make up your mind, just drop by for a drink or two. You won’t regret it.
