Phonocast 17 – Merrick Brown

Recorded at an in-store session Gramaphone on March 26th, 2013, this Phonocast entry finds Merrick Brown getting deep, downbeat, and dancy. While you might find him in Chicago playing at the tech-house oriented Refract residency at Primary, or playing dubstep, breaks, and badboy electro at Smartbar, he flexes his range in this session and starts out with soul-driven beatdown joints before moving into more robotic territory with classic acid house and Sheffield-leaning selections, then finally closing out the set with downright eclectic mixing – working in broken beat, upfront horns and space-aged funk. Clocking in at 81 minutes, it’s quite a trip.
