Sound Theories – Spectrum split 12″

New Jersey’s Ruben Candelario (Nicuri) has contributed on DJ Qu’s Exchange Place series, the London based Bliq, and Yygrec. Now he marks the first release on his newly conceived label Sound Theories.

Fellow statesman and Inimeg Recordings founder Joey Anderson helps out in the form of sputtering synths and breezy pads. Square waves walk throughout the track with an occasional squelch, giving “My Cassetts” a retro feel circa ’86. Nicuri handles A2 and the B side; the former is a sparse number that pairs rough toms with a snippet that nods at a preceding era of vocal house. On the flip side, “Behind Many Faces” holds a celestial vibe with delayed starburst-like loops and dreamy pads. A bass line with a subtle growl grounds the track.

This release has a throwback vibe combining nicely with retrofuturistic icy textures.
