Scott Grooves – Unreleased Anthology 12″ – Modified Suede

ms005Apparently Scott Grooves is using his Modified Suede outings to explore the more traditionally “house music” side of his sound.

Opening the record here is a collaboration with Seoulonnie that has the Chicago classic deep house aesthetic ingrained deeply into the core: soulful vocals intermingling with liberally improvised keyboard flourishes. Going on, the piano (and electronic variants) play a central role in the other tracks, pulling from jazzier influences than some of Grooves’ more sparse, Detroit-leaning releases in recent years.

This is still driving, club-oriented work, and fans of Peven Everett and Roy Davis Jr should certainly take note.
