Andy Vaz does it again, this time solo on his on Yore imprint.

Flexing his abilities in a variety of classic techniques, he opens with a big room gospel house number that would be difficult to recognize as coming from the same producer as some of his signature minimal house tunes. It’s layered and lavish; an utterly convincing tribute to the Masters At Work and Frankie Knuckles vibration. He follows that up with Hurry, Hurry, another soulful, even arguably American-sounding deep house tune, anchored by an insistent horn riff and a purring vocal harmony over a rollicking house rhythm.

On the flip side, he explores a bit further and to mixed results. Worst Fantasies is a bizarre fusion of acid and hip house, U Did Me Wrong, is a busy mixture of squelchy bass and an admonishing female vocal. It’s a mixed bag, but it does show that even if you think you know Mr Vaz, he seems to always have a few more tricks up his sleeve.
