Emotion – Grays Inn 12″ – RYMD
RYMD Records makes its first release with a two-tracker from London’s Emotion. Home to a couple of tough bare landscapes, this EP is pretty straightforward in terms of drums and percussion and leans towards its harder, almost acidic characteristics.
The record reminds me of a couple of Styles Upon Styles releases; it carries a similarly sinister and gritty affect as some Gut Nose material. Meanwhile, the stripped down approach and techy synth warbles make me think of Wilson, Moeller and Certain Creatures’ Spectrum EP. Pressed on a colored slab of wax, it could readily add a pair of gritty, textured mixing tools to one’s arsenal.
