Future Ambience compilation 12″ – Soiree

SRTFor fans of the organic sounds of Sacred Rhythm Music, this release from Detroit’s Soiree Records International should be a fine fit.

Longtime contributor Derrick Thompson via his Drivetrain guise contributes a pitched-down slow-burner that’s still uptempo enough to work in a deep house set, while perhaps providing a sensual reprieve. Santon Echols likewise anchors his house groove around an understatedly emotional vocal. On the flip, the theme is more techno-oriented. Canadian Rennie Foster gives a grounded interpretation of the future ambience theme, it’s a spacious, low-end leaning tune with a funky rhythm riding over the rumbling. Hideyoshi’s Alpha Decay caps off the compilation with the standout song – an eloquently layered melody emerges over a resonant kick.

While not ambient in perhaps the traditional sense of classifying electronic music, this compilation gathers dancefloor tracks that emphasize moods just as much as moves.
