John Tejada – Dramamine 12″ – Palette

PAL065“Dimenhydrinate is an over-the-counter antiemetic used for the treatment of the symptoms of motion sickness.” This 12″ diverges sharply from the precision-cut, sumptuous, almost synth-pop approach on his Signs Under Test album earlier this year on Kompakt. For his own Palette imprint, he ditches the bells for rave whistles.

Rather than the soothing effect that the name might suggest, the title track would more likely be recommending the drug to counteract the vertiginous rhythms and lurching melodies. Code Ext and Cipher are bit more restrained, but still harbor a certain unhinged menace. Claraudience Arc closes the kick-heavy EP with a breakbeat micro-edit feel and an Aphex acid melody.

The record is a dense-yet-DJ-friendly acid house workout, aligning well, for example, with KiNK’s recent dancefloor moments.
