Loose Joints – Is It All Over My Face 12″ – West End

wes22129Arthur Russell’s classic 1980 tune gets another repress. Steve D’Acquisto and the Ingram Brothers are also credited with production, while Larry Levan had a huge hand in propelling this song into immortality after it was recorded. For those not familiar, give this a listen if you have a penchant for soul, funk, or disco.

The female version hugs the groove a little tighter and is the more minimal of the two recordings, as glistening keys and slick bass playing meld with Melvina Woods’ vocals. The male version sounds more like a jam session; it’s laden with percussion and is more experimental in terms of instrumentation. Both versions do the job of nailing the soothing, yet hypnotic and haunting uncanniness of Russell’s melody and lyrics.
