Tigrics – Thin Drum LP – Kind Gesture

KGLP001From the first fade, this is a inventive endeavor. Obscure and prolific, Budapest’s Tigrics wastes no time on this, his vinyl debut.

It opens into a Consumer’s Research Development / Merck / WARP-style tune: Daymonster is all heavily syncopated, lightly processed, drum-break & synthesizer programming. Tigrics stays in this pensive mode with a few quick, chattery cuts before diving all the way into the finespun, nearly weightless groove of Friends House. A couple more twitchy, sparkling gems close out the A side.

The latter half of the album continues to explore an elaborate-structured, frequently delicate, always melody-driven approach to electronic composition. The work here has a distinctive voice; while likely drawing on influences like Plaid and maybe eDIT, it seems to explore the territory Atropa’s cheeky irreverence and earlier introspective Scandinavian electronics.

It’s a thoughtful introduction to the brand new Chicago-based Kind Gesture imprint.
