Chicago-based Rob Mazurek and Emmett Kelly venture into strange lands for the appropriately titled Alien Flower Sutra. The use of reverb, space, and effects is enchanting and really helps to paint an “alien” aural picture.

The album journeys through difficult, almost grating moments, somberness, and expansive, understated, elation – all the while emotive. Industrial, ambient, experimental, folk, and jazz influences can be heard, but simultaneously, this doesn’t sound like much music I’ve heard before. The album is trippy, well done, weird, and recommended.
