Rydim vs DJ Funk – Ghetto Booty 12″ – Hot Creations

HOTC105Jamie Jones and Lee Foss’ Hot Creations is still out there in 2017, and they’ve brought a longtime ghettotech legend into the studio for their latest dance 12″.

Ghetto Booty is a collaboration between Chicago’s DJ Funk and Rydim, a German producer previously better known for his solo productions for contemporary techno imprints like Tsuba and Praterei. The result is something like a slightly smoothed out booty track on the title cut, a festive house party revision by Jesse Perez, and then a kind of bonus Rydim solo track, “Easy As That,” to close out the record. That last one gives a more typical impression of Rydim’s solo work: a bass-heavy, chunky, housey style.

The record pulls in three distinct directions, and almost feels subdued when compared with the big room, peak-time efforts released this year by the busy imprint, especially from artists like Patrick Topping, Latmun, Darius Syrossian, Mihalis Safras, and Andrea Olivia. But while these “party” records rely on head-turning drops, this record might fall somewhat more in  line with the somewhat more oddball Phil Kieran remixes, which included commissions from Matthew Herbert and Andrew Weatherall.
